Phillipa Foot

Phillipa Foot passed away earlier this week. Foot was one of the most important moral philosophers of the twentieth century. She also gave us the trolley problem, but you take the good with the bad.

In all seriousness, the world would be a better place if more people were as incisive and thoughtful as Foot, and her work in moral philosophy--even, yes, the trolley problem--is incredibly important and, more importantly for an undergraduate philosophy student, well written (trust me, that's notable in the world of analytic philosophy).

In honor of her life, here's a nine-year-old discussing the trolley problem. Suck it, consequentialism! (Also, here's some nice trolley problem art.)
