Well, I was going to stay up and see what happened with Issue 1 (gay marriage) in Maine, but I'm too tired, and it doesn't look like we'll know till morning. In the meantime, Republicans swept the Virginia statehouse (no big surprise there--polling has been consistent), and Christie nudged out Corzine in NJ (I had my money on Corzine. Poop).
In other news, cue the media telling us that this means EPIC FAIL OBAMA! Even though neither one of those races is a good barometer of national sentiment, considering Obama's approval ratings are roughly the same in those states as they were when he was elected:
Chuck Todd reports that Barack Obama's approval rating among Virginia voters stands at 51 percent (just under the 52.6 percent of the vote he received in the state last November) and 57 percent in New Jersey (almost exactly the same as the 57.1 percent of the vote he earned in that state last November). In other words, exit polling indicates President Obama has not really lost supporters over the past year.
I've been refreshing the Bangor Daily News page over and over again to see the results, and, right now, with 28 percent in, "NO" (which is a vote for gay marriage) is up by less than one percent. I hope that holds through.
CUTE ASIDE: Right now, The Washington Post link saying that Christie won goes to a page titled "Exit polls suggest the Corzine-Christie race is too close to call". Just an FYI WaPo, you might want to update that now that the race has been called.
