My New Favorite

Pixie
From Uncanny X-Men, issue 503
With Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, Greg Land, Jay Leisten, and Justin Ponsor

Now that this X-Men/Dark Avengers crossover is finally done, I've decided to go back and re-read all the Fraction stuff (that's issues 500 - 514).

Sadly, ever since Kitty Pryde "died" in Astonishing, I've been looking for an X-Men to fill the void she left in my heart. Armor is pretty cool, but I think Pixie takes the cake.

But, moving away from my fairly bizarre obsession with certain fictional mutants, Fraction's arc thus far has been incredibly interesting. It's a very different take than what you would expect. He truly has taken the lemon of House of M (where all but a few mutants were de-powered, because that's what the series needed... or something) and made some good comics.

That said. Pages upon pages of fight scenes don't really intrigue me. In fact, I find it pretty dull. Ooh! Look! That Dark Avenger is fighting that X-Man! What's going to happen? I'll tell you what's going to happen: page after page of really boring reading.

Fortunately, out of the five issue crossover, I'd say only three of them were taken up by too-long fight scenes, so that's cool.

Whatever. I'm just excited for a return to (1) sane numbering and (2) good storytelling.
