Ahh, Thanksgiving. Hearing the horror stories from my friends about in-laws and crazy cousins and all the other assorted family oddballs that come together on Thanksgiving, I'm reminded that "those Republicans"--the distaff family that lives in the hinterlands of nowhere and wear American Flag apperal, etc.--probably don't know this.
I'm too young to remeber the Vietnam-era protests and the (apparently) anti-troop mentality that surrounded them. I do know, though, that these are different times, and if anyone isn't supporting the troops (a phrase, by the by, that I'm starting to reject on the grounds that it doesn't mean much--what would this "support" look like--and is used primarily to beat other people over the head for lack partisan purposes) treating veterens well, it's the Bush administration.
Surprise!
From the LA Times (via Hilzoy at Obsidian Wings) we find that:
In a little-noticed regulation change, the Pentagon's definition of combat-related disabilities is narrowed, costing some wounded veterans thousands of dollars in lost benefits.
Go, read. It's depressing, but important stuff.
Can the myth that Democrats "don't support the troops" die now, please?
