The Comics, Underground

The Vinyl Underground, Volume 1: "Watching the Detectives"
Si Spencer
Here.

The Vinyl Underground is a fun, smart book with surprising heft. The first trade is coming out this Wednesday. This trade, I believe, will follow the first arc, which is not nearly as compelling as the second (the arc that just wrapped up with the last issue, number nine). Nevertheless, it provides a good layout for this occult-crime cracking team.

I would say that Vinyl Underground is like a better, cleverer, and more serious version of the scooby gang, but that would be like saying that The Bad Plus are a better version Muzak. Anyway, I'd recommend picking up the trade at your local comic book store. Even if you don't normally pick up comics, I think you'd like this one. Plus, if you go into a comic book store and but this on Wednesday--when it comes out--you'll totally look like you know what you're about... though, then you'll look like a comic book geek...

Once you cross that line, as I found out, you never cross back.
