What to write, what to write?
I could, I suppose, mention Barack Obama's amazing speech last night here in Murderopolis. It was pretty amazing.
I could talk about Senator Clinton's defiant rejection of her loss and reality. I could go on to compare the two speeches. Hillary's speech--"I am... I want... I will..."--to Obama's speech--eloquent, as always: "this was the moment, this was the time, when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our very highest ideals."
Or I could talk about McCain's gawdawful speech and the ideocy of speaking on the same night as Obama. A comparison made worse by Obama's rather feisty descision to speak in Saint Paul on the very same stage McCain will grace when recieving the nomination. Every speech will inevitably be compared to his. And that is one hard act to follow.
I could talk about Maureen Dowd's idiotic and disgusting column, but, that is, frankly, too easy and others do it better than me.
I, just like some supporters of Senator Clinton, am a touch mournful? What will I have to write about after this? Well, I got an email from a friend of mine, quite angry, it seemed, over Obama's stance on negotiation with Hamas. Of course, Obama's stance is actually more lenient than many (hence, Bush's jab at him re appeasement), and is pretty much mainstream for, I don't know, the last 60 years.
So, forgive me, friend, if I'm unable to feel all that angry. Frankly, I sometimes wonder if it isn't Clinton supporters who put Obama up on a pedistal. The man's a politician. He isn't going to be the MOST AMAZING POLITICIAN EVER. He's just a good politician, who speaks well, and will make a good president. So, let's not put him on a pedistal and then be shocked when he doesn't live up to it.
Seriously, what am I cgoing to rant about when this season is over?
